The aim of the Expositions is to present new and important developments in pure and applied mathematics. Well established in the community over more than two decades, the series offers a large library of mathematical works, including several important classics. The volumes supply thorough and detailed expositions of the methods and ideas essential to the topics in question. In addition, they convey their relationships to other parts of mathematics. The series is addressed to advanced readers interested in a thorough study of the subject. Editorial Board Lev Birbrair, Universidade Federal do Ceará, Fortaleza, BrasilWalter D. "In the opinion of the reviewer the book is very well written - to wait for a new book in this area almost 40 years has proved to be worthwhile." Zentralblatt für Mathematik
Number of Pages:

The subject of this book is the relation between the structure of a group and the structure of its lattice of subgroups. Here two different areas come together: group theory and lattice theory. In this book it is studied how lattice-theoretic concepts can be applied to the study of groups.
Readers are assumed to have a basic knowledge in group theory, the necessary concepts from lattice theory are developed in the course of the text. The book contains a large number of exercises and is the only text on subgroup lattices since Suzuki's Ergebnisbericht of 1956.
