This Paper presents the research findings on the perceptions of University of Nairobi students of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) in Kenya. It captures their perceptions of the usefulness and effectiveness of HELB in giving them loans as University students. The paper further the study's seeks to establish the role of HELB in meeting the financial needs of students as well as investigating the adequacy of these loans; finding out whether students need counselling on loan management. It investigates the students' prior knowledge of HELB before joining university.
Florence Kithinji holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Education from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She has worked in the area of human resource management for over 18 years in different positions including as a Civil Servant and Trainer and actually is a Principal Lecturer at the Kenya Institute of Administration in Nairobi, Kenya.
