Chief Ekwueme, a very rich man, unaware of the fact that he is impotent, marries three wives as he is desperate to get children. Inevitably his house becomes a theatre of war, a battle ground of all sorts as his wives employ all types of means; the good, the bad and the ugly to struggle for supremacy in Chief Ekwueme's affection. Chiebonam, the last wife emerges the undisputed queen through foul and diabolical means. Events however, move to a cataclysmic climax and she is exposed, disgraced and chased out of Chief Ekwueme's house. Adaku, the second wife, a sneaky, sly, scheming woman disappears as she is also exposed thus leaving Ugoye as the rightful owner of the house. Ugoye's midnight tears are wiped as she becomes pregnant. the tense, thrilling and unputdownable story can only be penned with the superb craftsmanship that is characteristic of a maestro wordsmith, one of the masters and not an apprentice writer. -- The Reviewer
